Indie Film, The Summer Of Massacre Slashing its way into Movie Records Books

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 22, 2011

Following in the footsteps of Herschel Gordon Lewis?s 1963 Blood Feast, producer/director Joe Castro takes audiences into a murder driven decathlon with over 100 killings and eight maniacal, terrifying and relentless killers. The body count is higher than all of the Friday the 13ths combined. Produced by Escobar Indie Pictures, Ltd and executive produced and edited by Steven Escobar, The Summer of Massacre has the potential to slash its way into The Guinness Book of World Records for the ?Highest Body Count in a Slasher film.?

?Over the years, I accumulated ideas for a splatter/slasher epic and as an artist and director I chose to create a film that would be an anthology incorporating all of my ideas,? said Castro. ?Herschel always told me to make something that is truly original and that is why I made The Summer of Massacre.

This fast paced gore epic will have even the most seasoned horror moviegoers unprepared. The Summer of Massacre is a bold and risky project starring some of Hollywood?s premier horror film stars, which include Brinke Stevens (Slumber Party Massacre), Nick Principe (Laid to Rest), and Cleve Hall (Nightmare). ?My ultimate goal with this film was to top the gore in the horror films I watched as a boy in the early 1980?s,? said Castro. ?If I can make the viewer physically put their hands over their eyes, instead of closing them or turning away from the screen, I?ve done my job.?

Since its world premiere in may 2011, the film has won twelve awards at various film festivals including Best Horror Film, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Special Effects: Animation and an Accolade Award of Merit for experimental film. The film has been selected at the countries top film festivals, which include the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, American Independent Film Festival, The Indie Gathering International Film Festival, The Accolade Competition, The Indie Fest, Los Angeles Reel Film Festival, Atlanta Horror Film Festival and CineSol Film Festival. ???? ?The Summer of Massacre wasn?t done in a cheap, gritty, cold looking way like most independent horror films,? concludes Castro, ?I created this film with bright colors and in a polished, Hollywood fashion. It?s grotesque, yet pretty to look at.?

Joe Castro and Steven Escobar have worked together since 1997 producing independent feature films which take audience on a ride like no other low budget project can. Escobar Indie Pictures, Ltd (formerly Jesco Film Entertainment) has produced over 10 feature films for the direct to video market internationally. Their next adventure will be TERROR TOONS 3, the third installment in the infamous franchise.

The Summer of Massacre has been recently acquired by Vicious Circle Films, a division of Breaking Glass Pictures headed by Rich Wolff in Philadelphia. Release is scheduled for 1st quarter of 2012.

The Summer of Massacre will be screened at the Atlanta Horror Film Festival on September 15th and at CineSol Film Festival in Edinburg, Texas on September 17th. For more information go to http://www.thesummerofmassacre.com
