Whether someone is working in a business suit or a birthday suit, working from home offers many challenges, benefits, and adventures. In her new book, Working Naked: A guide to the bare essentials of home office life (Blakely Press, 978-0615383033, $ 15, September 2010), nationally recognized home office expert and author Lisa Kanarek shares proven tips for working naked ? working without the support of the corporate workplace ? and getting the most from a home office.
In Working Naked, Kanarek?s fifth book, she urges readers to take a close look at every room and open space in their home to find the ideal place to set up shop, or to reevaluate their current home office space to determine whether it?s still a viable place to work. ?No matter what size home someone has, there?s always room for a home office,? says Kanarek. She also encourages and provides strategies for home office professionals to strip down their excess supplies, control cascading piles of paperwork and balance their home and office life when they?re in the same place.
Kanarek?s advice and easy-to-implement tips in Working Naked will help anyone create a home office that?s functional yet stylish, cutting edge yet comfortable. She offers the following tips from her book:
?When a home has limited space, consider all areas including closets, wide hallways, alcoves and landings as places for a home office. Also, decide whether these are high-traffic areas or whether they?re too secluded to make work possible.
?Think outside the box. When setting up a home office in a living area (such as a living room, dining room, or guest room), use a convertible desk or computer cabinet that?s easy to move or that can be closed up when not in use.
?Use a few cheap tricks. Turn an antique buffet, dresser or other piece of furniture into office supply storage; use a rolling storage system with drawers to store supplies, files or sales materials; or place a laminate top, thick sheet of glass or a long board across two file cabinets to create a work surface with storage space below.
