World-Renowned Architect to Be Given Excellence Award by US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce

Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 29, 2005

The US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce (USPAACC) will present the Excellence Award in the Arts to world-renowned landscape architect Jeff S. Lee at the Annual Excellence Awards and Scholarships Dinner on May 5, 2005 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The black-tie gala will be held on the second day of the three-day business conference, 20th Anniversary CelebrAsian 2005: Diversity Means Business?the largest annual national Asian American business conference in the United States and the only business conference designed for the Asian American community.

The Korean-born architect, through his firm Lee and Associates, formed a joint venture with Centex Construction in 2003 and became the architect of record for the Pentagon Memorial, a two-acre park located at the site of the 9/11 tragedy. Shortly thereafter, a local jury chose the firm?s original design for a three-acre 9/11 Memorial Grove on Kingman Island in the Anacostia River. ?Working with the families of 9/11 victims has been a cathartic experience,? Lee said. ?It has been a privilege to help them honor and remember their loved ones, and personally, it has been a gift to participate in projects that help people to heal.?

Lee?s imprint on the Washington metropolitan area include the Ronald Reagan Building, the new streetscape in historic Georgetown, Capitol Hill?s Barracks Row (connecting the Navy Yard to Eastern Market), the Bonsai Garden at the U.S. National Arboretum, and numerous parks and playgrounds.

Lee and Associates recently completed the Master Plan for Downtown Mecca, Saudi Arabia with a build out estimate of $ 9 billion. In Nanjing, China, the firm won a hotly contested competition to plan and design 30 sites, including Dr. Sun Yet Sen?s Tomb and Memorial Park, theme parks, resorts and historic sites for cultural tourism.

Lee will be honored with three other outstanding Asian Americans during the gala dinner, where USPAACC will also announce its 2005 Ten Most Influential Asian Americans in Business.

CelebrAsian 2005, which coincides with the national observance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, is open to all those who do business or would like to do business with Asian American suppliers, importers/exporters in the Asia-Pacific region, Fortune 500 companies, the federal government and the minority business community. Over 1,000 participants are expected to attend the conference with sessions to be held at the U.S. Department of Commerce and at the conference hotel, the Omni Shoreham Hotel.

The corporate chairs for this year?s business conference are Federal Express, Cendant, Verizon and Wells Fargo. To register or for more information about CelebrAsian 2005 and other USPAACC activities, log on to http://www.uspaacc.com or contact USPAACC at 1 (800) 696.7818.
